Grand central station....so much history good and bad things have happened here as with all places but something about this particular place just cent chills down Heathers spine. She sat on a bench against one of the far walls just watching people come and go trying to figure out her plan. She had only been in the city for a few hours thus far, having come thousands of miles from her home to look for one woman....one very important woman. Heather just kind of blended in with everyone, wearing a black hoodie with the hood pulled up over her head, her nose buried into the drawings of her premonitions, Especially the one of the woman with blood that can keep a vampire alive in the sunlight.
Her premonitions was what drove her to this wretched city, she almost looked pained to be around this many people. She was from a small town, her father was a vampire hunter and her mother was an Oracle. Together they made the perfect team but Heather was in this alone. It was both brave of her and very stupid of her to come to this city with the knowledge she had. But this was something she had to do or human kind was going to be screwed. She also feared that these next few months would be her last with eye sight....her vision was deteriorating very fast, That could be told by the light coloring of her eyes....but no one knew that and she would never tell anyone that either.
Heather would put her drawings aside for a moment on the bench beside her leaning back and pulling her legs up on the bench with her so she could hug her knees to her chest watching people as they passed. The only thing that could be seen of her was her ghostly blue eyes her hood covering most other parts of her head. She watched hoping maybe she could spot the girl here....she was getting her hopes up she knew the chances of that were one in a trillion but it was better than going outside.
The sun had already set over the city but that didnt stop people from pouring into the station by the dozens. she had never felt so uncomfortable being in a place like this. she felt a bit lost and helpless but that never stopped her before. " I hate this place already...", she growled under her breath. " Should just let them find out about the girls blood....I will move to Canada I bet the vampires up there are nicer than the pricks here.", she mumbled under her breath. " Can I have your blood eh? ... eh? eh? EH?!", she imitated what she thought a vampire from Canada would sound like. " Screw that its already driving me crazy and im not even there yet. "

Grand Central Station, the place was a transportation hub for the city of New York, people moving through it nearly constantly either to access the Subways beneath or the above ground Trains moving out of the city. Either way hundreds of thousands of people moved through the building a year. Among passengers were the usual riff raff that filtered through the streets, the homeless sitting in corners trying to stay warm in the night. The pickpockets and thieves slipping through the crowd to pinch a persons wallet here, or to take a watch their. They were not the dangerous ones, money you could regain, your life that was something that once gone would stay gone. Cain stood overlooking the crowd, he could not explain why he had come to this place, and yet he was smart enough and old enough to trust his instincts. Looking down his eyes meandered through the crowd looking at nothing in particular but searching for something. He knew it when he saw it, in a corner away from everyone else, shaded by shadow, a young woman moving closer. Predatory instinct trickled through his mind, he knew what would happen if he did not act. She was pray, the woman was a step closer as he vaulted from his perch high above the stone colums and the various travelers. He fell from the windows ledge like a stone as his cloak fluttered around him before he struck the stone floor falling into a crouch as he made contact and vaulting forward. Being a Dhamphir he was fast, perhaps not so much as his cousins the Vampires, perhaps not as much as the Lycans, but compared to a human, he was lightning caged in a bottle. So it took only a few seconds to cross the room and even fewer to taste the creatures scent. To let it fill his mind and guide his path. He saw it moving towards the woman, a pale hand raised and then Cain was their his fist slamming forward, only to be grabbed by the vampire... He could only grin. Cain was a hunter and not one known to move unprepared as the vampire screamed in agony. Silver bit into his skin burning him as the Brass knuckles that slammed into his hand were not in fact brass but pure silver. It reacted in much the same way as any vampire would he pulled his hand away and swatted what he had failed to realize what was not truly mortal. The power and dazzling speed in conjunction of the closeness of the assault didn't give him a chance to move away or dodge, instead he was sent flying, not to the floor or a few feet, no Cain flew back and up to slam into a wall and shatter it on impact... If not for having fed well and regularly for over 50 years he perhaps would have died, Instead he fell off the shattered stone wall to land on a bench next to a woman... Or at least he thought it was a woman, she smelled like one, and if a man smelled that much like a summer breeze, than the guy was buying the wrong cologne. “Pardon, ma'am hope I'm not interrupting but would you mind watching my coat... I would rather not give my friend the chance to get a meal... Silver does cause such horrible burns to him... allergies and all...” Cain didn't give her the chance to react and almost laughed, as he stepped forward, he wondered how many of the hunters would like to see him without his cloak and the fact that he was about to drop it in front of a crowd, not that most were really paying attention and the security, being owned by the vampires weren't about to get in a brawl with their boss, and a hunter. Cain, was anything but out of shape, he was lean and cut, his abs not simple toned but fully formed as a six pack each muscle on his upper body clearly defined and only marred by the myriad scars that crisscrossed his Torso. In a way it made him look like a mosaic, or perhaps a jigsaw puzzle. But over that was no shirt but a number of belts One over the shoulder held a Sword Its hilt at his right him and the tip of the blade crossing to his left shoulder. Under each arm was a gun holster holding a pair of pristine black Colt 1911's chambered for .45 ACP rounds, Resting on each thigh on a pair of custom Holsters were a second pair of Pistols this pair being the .357 magnum Desert Eagle, each of this guns held full clips and were chock full of Silver. As if that was not enough of an arsenal in a public building he had more, perhaps he had issues perhaps he just prepared a little to well but attached to the small of his back was a pair of short curved knives, each of these though colored black were in fact also silver, if only blackened while being forged. Finally he had the Silver Brass Knuckles on each hand. And the Silver chain that from a distance would look like a sleeve, but was far from. Wrapping from the shoulder to his wrist was a fine braided silver link chain, in some spots one could see flecks of blood sitting on the chain, his own blood he knew from it being torn across his back. It was also one of the first weapons he was given when he had mastered his hunger. Breathing he focused and found the scent he wanted it was running, not away but towards Cain. A deep breath and he let the coil of chain loosen and slide down his arm, piling on the floor as he did. He waited standing still his eyes closed in a smirk that showed his glistening fangs. He waited for the way to clear and it did, one second the vampire was before him the next it was lunging towards him. The 20 foot chain snapped out with an eye blink as Cain moved to the side whipping it forward to wrap it around the vampires neck the next motion was a pull, the Vampire still not on the floor changed direction towards Cain who calmly pulled the curved knife from his back. It flashed across his body in an arc as its momentum continued. The Knife cutting the speeding vampire nearly in half as it flew. It was dust before the body would hit the ground. He stood still for a moment, breathing... nothing had changed in the surrounding, the people still milled about, the guards still ignored him. The pick pockets kept picking pockets, and one more human would not be bitten that night... It was enough for him as he sheathed the blade to turn back to the girl. And his waiting cloak, as he looked at her he began wrapping the silver chain once more around his arm, taking care of the process as he knew that if it was done improperly it would not stay properly. Something about this girl though he could not place it beckoned to him, he could say it was the scent, the way the air fairly thrummed with energy around her but he couldn't truly tell. Instead he bowed at the waist to her, his grin fading as his fangs vanished beneath his lips. “I am rather sorry to have disturbed you Ma'am, If there is anything I can aid you with I shall... and no I am not going to ask for blood later, I'm a Hunter... not an animal with no self control to spare...”

Heather’s mind was racing…what was she thinking by coming here to this wretched city? Why was it her problem if vampires gained the ability to walk out into the sun light….She would just go somewhere that they weren’t! Like that could happen. Her better senses came to her, she had to do this not only for herself but all of mankind. There was no telling what kind of hell would break loose if those monsters could walk out into the day light. Monsters that was for sure, killers everyone of the no matter what. She sometimes found herself wishing that she didn’t have the gift of seeing into the future, then she would be blessed with not knowing what bad things was going to happen later on. Ignorance is bliss right? But the fact of the matter was that she was stuck with it at least for a little bit longer before the darkness consumed her.
The air around her seemed to change, something wasn’t right. Her eyes followed a figure falling from someplace high. The moment he hit the ground she lost sight of him her eyes unable to keep up with how fast he was. She didn’t seem to alarmed not until things began to go wrong. She kept her head down though maybe it would stay away from her then she could just say she never seen a thing right? WRONG! Heather tried to keep up with the fight only to see that the man was not flying towards her. A yelp left her mouth as she turned on the bench to cover her head afraid that she might be hit! How could he have survived that? When he spoke she just glanced at him he had landed on the bench right beside her and before she could even say a word he was up and away standing just little ways away from her…” what the hell….”, she said to herself pushing the hood from her head and watching from her seat. She glanced over at his coat that he entrusted her with for the time being before turning her attention back to the scene.
Her eyes were glued on him, how could they not be. Tempted to run away while she had the chance she couldn’t seem to force her body to move from her seat. It seemed like it had been years and years since she seen a vampire in person. The last one she had really seen was the one that used her …that she let use her. Usually she just told the hunters she had worked with where to go and what to do, or what was going to happen. She hadn’t encountered a real vampire in at least five or so years. She understood now why it was so easy for most vampires to get a meal they were all so beautiful. It seemed like they hardly had any flaw to them at all, this one in front of her was no exception.
She was both astonished and afraid of what was going on right in front of her, it was hard for her still to grasp the concept of these beings, and at the same time she was utterly terrified of them. She had forgotten just how strong they were up until Cain had managed to snap the chain around the vampires neck from afar, jerking the chain forward the vampire still didn’t fall, instead he began to run towards Cain. Heather was having a rough time keeping up but she did catch the end. A knife ripping across the vampires body, resulting in a nice pile of dust afterwords. She was in a state of shock first staring at the dust now settled on the ground then at him. He stood there for a moment before turning back to her. She blinked before shaking her head.
“Been out of the game a little to long…”, she muttered under her breath. She was a lover not a fighter in most cases. But she could fight just not Vampires. When he began to speak she just had to be nice to him. He didn’t seem to be any threat to her, if nothing he really saved her life. “ Its ok really! At least I got a good show right? Something to draw later if nothing else.”, she laughed as if it was nothing but really her body was shaking from it. She hated seeing stuff like that but it was life, and she did see a lot of it regardless of it being in her visions or real life. She wasn’t really afraid of vampires that had some sense to them, and when he said he was a hunter she automatically assumed he was a half vampire or something along those lines.
Him being a hunter maybe he would be able to help her with what she was looking for. “ Since you are a hunter maybe you will be able to help me with something.”, she started as she began to dig through her backpack pulling out the picture of the woman she had drawn just a few weeks prior. “ Have you ever seen this woman?”, she said as she held the picture up to him. “ Her name is Selena… or at least I think that is how they said it in my vision.”, she wasn’t sure just what part of this city the woman would be in the only thing she had was the picture, a name, and the fact that she was human. But in the city of new york how many women named Selena were there? “ Oh Im sorry. My name is Heather by the way. I worked with a group of hunters from Louisiana.”

Years, perhaps decades that was how long it had been since he had truly fought and killed a vampire. He preferred to avoid a fight but many of them, would never allow someone to steal their prey from beneath their noses. It was why it always devolved to fighting, and many vampires particularly the youngest of them had never been in a fight for their lives they had never had to face the fear of death. That was the secret force them to follow their instinct force them to fear them and kill them before they could bring to bear the power. That was why he had one and the vampire had failed, Surprise worked for the hunter. Yet it was the girl that caught his attention. She seemed to not fear him or the fangs as she looked him over and seemed to ignore the Scars that crossed his bare Torso. On the other hand she was shaking, that could be fear or something else entirely he could hardly be sure. Needless to say he had managed to finish wrapping the silver chain around his arm once more. “Since you are a hunter maybe you will be able to help me with something.” He looked her over, okay so she somehow had some idea as to the supernatural world, or at least knew enough to know that a hunter wouldn't attack a human unless they knew the human was in deep with the Vampires. As such it was easy to tell that she was far from a normal person, which was probably why she wasn't catatonic or ignoring him. Her hair was long and dark a sharp contrast to her pale skin and light blue eyes. Honestly he could not explain what was unique about the color of her eyes only that their was something unique about them. So far as he was able to tell though, he saw no visible scars and in many ways she seemed almost breakable. Then their was the captivating scent that made his throat dry. It annoyed him when a human brought out that urge. The need for blood and it did happen no matter the strength of his self control, certain people smelled so divine to him that he could hardly explain what kept him from falling to his hunger. Yet he knew better, knew that to be a hunter to be a protector, he had to be in control. Needless to say he was glad she was not looking at him and that she had not seen that moment when the predator flashed through his eyes. “Have you ever seen this woman? Her name is Selena… or at least I think that is how they said it in my vision. Oh I'm sorry. My name is Heather by the way. I worked with a group of hunters from Louisiana.” Seen in her vision... things clicked as he stared at her and ran through in his mind how many were in the city, keeping the oracles secret and hidden was something that the Hunters were very careful about. After what had happened 150 years before due to the oracles the Vampires had begun to try to find and kill many of them, unless they were useful to themselves. It was why many oracles worked with groups of hunters... that and the other side effect, becoming blind over time. It explained everything... It also meant that she was in danger, she was obviously a mature Seer, her powers having come fully awake and thereby dangerous to those that she may see. However it was not up to any but the Oracle how their knowledge should be used. “Well then Heather, I am Cain... and no I'm not like the one in the bible... I'm more grumpy but less violent... Still a monster though.” He stated letting his mind wander as he drew his massive leather mantled duster over his form to hide the array of weapons from site. In the same movement his hands drew into the folds of the sleeves and he glanced around his nose questing for the unique scent of a Vampire, if another one was here it would not be safe, especially if they had ran into an Oracle before... He had to admit that he was the one to find her in the city alone. “I am... not supposed to be active, I'm technically on house arrest... only the people that confined me are dead and I need to eat like anyone else... just not like everyone else... I just kinda saw someone targeted and figured I should save her... I'm actually a Librarian, I catalog and organize the Archive in the city... I personally don't know this Selena however the other Hunters are much more active, I can perhaps offer you a place to rest... While they search... Probably be safer if your with someone when your out... The vampires hate your kind more than most hunters... and Oracles smell different than a normal human... more pardon the phrase, appetizing... Like comparing a TV dinner to a gourmet meal at a 5 star restaurant... Not that I want to eat you or anything...” You said... until he realized he was rambling and shut himself up rather firmly by fishing the flask from his jacket. Unlike most flasks it was chilled and it contained blood, at least enough to numb his hunger for a little while to keep his mind off her scent and the veins on her skin. It was annoying how his vision could pick them out easily. Of course the human part of his mind, couldn’t help but admire her aesthetics as he offered her his hand... as a gentleman would. He didn't feel comfortable here, to many bodies, to many chances for one to be connected to the court. Best to leave before trouble found them.

Heather had no real reason to fear Cain, he had done nothing to make her fear her. Sure he had scars and some nice teeth but she had seen these on vampires and humans alike ( Those that wanted to be a vampire at least), Superficial features didn’t make the person it was how they acted. Her whole life her mother and father both taught her to treat people with respect regardless of species. Vampires had helped her family in the past but they also had hurt them. She had no reason to believe that one bad vampire should set the mold for all others. Besides she was sure if something terrible was to happen to her she would see it or at least she thought she would, actually she would rather it be a surprise for the first time in her life. She wasn’t to thrilled about the thought of seeing herself die after all. Her shaking soon began to stop as she calmed herself fighting was something she was going to have to get use to seeing again after all.
Heather knew of the repercussions of being an Oracle, her eye sight was already starting to fade the more she had her visions. The more her eyesight began to fade the lighter her eyes began to get, it was her biggest fear loosing her sight but she knew there was no stopping it. To be completely honest she was afraid of the dark and once her eyesight was gone it was going to be an eternal darkness that she just wouldn’t be able to escape from. Everything had its downfalls it seemed like, humans were fragile, Oracles would go blind eventually, and Vampires had to drink blood and live with the night to sustain themselves. You could never get something for nothing no matter how hard you tried. Those few like Cain who were half vampire and half human had it worse off than any though, Doomed to be looked down upon by all species How sad.
Cain in a way it was fitting Cain from the bible was a bit of a monster but this one seemed far from it. She laughed at first but her laugh soon turned serious when he called himself a monster. “ Your not a monster. “, she said to him rather seriously. “ Far from it actually.”, she said smiling right after. He didn’t seem so bad not as bad as she would picture someone like him….not even as bad as she pictured the typical new Yorker. “ You shouldn’t be so down on yourself. “, she advised him. Another thing her mother taught her from a young age was that if people kept calling you thing and kept calling you thing you would eventually start to believe them. “ your only a monster if you grow horns other wise you are just a really messed up human.”, Yes the picking at him would commence now.
Once he began to speak again she would listen carefully to him her eyes fixed on him the whole time. She could not help but laugh at him for just a moment, “ A librarian? Really… Iv never seen a Librarian with quiet so many scars.”, she said as she shook her head. Wow people in New York were a lot different than where she came from. Why would they put such a good asset under hose arrest? “ If they are dead wouldn’t that mean you are off house arrest though?”, she asked tilting her head to the side. She didn’t want to be nosey but her curiosity usually got the best of her. He seemed to be a very interesting person, she was actually curious to find out a little bit more about him, “ Just how old are you…If the people that locked you away are dead now?”, she asked before catching herself. How rude was that? Bah she would die if someone asked her age! She was old enough to be a mom at least three times if she timed it just right after all.
She frowned a bit when he said he didn’t know who Selena was but the thought of meeting more hunters gave her a little bit of hope. “ oh well even if they don’t know her I will eventually find her on my own. How hard can it be to find someone in New York city?”, she laughed a little bit. The details on her search were still a little sketchy, all she knew is that this woman’s blood would let vampires walk out into the sun light. Other details have yet to show up. “ A place to rest would be amazing at this point. “, anything would help she came into this city looking for a one in a trillion person that she may never find. She only wondered what would happen if she found this girl and was to late. She would never be able to forgive herself, when vampires are able to walk in the sunlight she was sure it would be the downfall of the human civilization.
She stared at him for a long moment after he finished speaking, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to laugh or what. An mischievous grin would soon cross her lips taking his hand she pulled herself from the bench and rested one hand on her hip tilting her head ever so slightly to the side. “ So Mr. Cain. Not only do I smell funny but even though I am a five star meal you don’t want to eat me.”, was she being serious? No. Of course not! But she would be sure to get a good laugh from this. “ Well maybe I don’t want to eat you either. Psht “, she rolled her eyes before laughing. She watched as he drank from his flask not sure if she should feel sorry for him or not. “ Is it hard having to live like this?”, she asked having to look up at him a little bit now. “ I mean having to drink blood and all that jazz…. I always wondered. “ , once she stood she would stuff the picture she had taken out back in her bag, securing the backpack over her left shoulder. She knew it was probably time to go now, no need to overstay her welcome in this place. After all he was right the vampires might catch her scent and cause a bigger scene.

Though most would hardly view Cain as a monster from a fairy tale, it didn't change the natural stigma of what he was. Either people were afraid of him or others saw vampirism as some sexual fantasy and not for what it really was. The people that knew were smart enough to be afraid of the dark and alleys at night. It was not hard to note the way people looked at you when they knew what you were. Many people would unconsciously shy away and walk as far from him as possible... it was this that had lead to him hiding his identity for so many long years. “ Your not a monster. Far from it actually. You shouldn’t be so down on yourself. Your only a monster if you grow horns other wise you are just a really messed up human.” He had nothing to say to that, what could be more monstrous an act than using the very blood of mortals to allow his own unending existence to continue. His body was done with aging and his mind only gained more knowledge with each passing night. Oh sure he could handle the sun for short spurts and moments but it was not however something that he actually enjoyed or even wanted anything to do with. She was young, she did not understand that even he was afraid of himself, afraid of the coiling hunger, the true monster that always sought a way out. This monster thirsted for fresh blood and that which Cain was willing to sustain himself with was a paltry connection to what he really needed. Needless to say he was the one to offer her sanctuary and so he would. So even as he listened to her words he waited for her to gather her stuff and even noted the way her pale eyes seemed to watch him, and his actions. “ So Mr. Cain. Not only do I smell funny but even though I am a five star meal you don’t want to eat me. Well maybe I don’t want to eat you either. Psht. Is it hard having to live like this? I mean having to drink blood and all that jazz…. I always wondered. “ He looked at her, it seemed as he finished drinking from his flask. Making sure nothing had ended on his lips or dribbling down his chin. It seemed, to him, that she was not really understanding what he meant by his words. On the other hand admitting the need and desire to taste her blood strait from her veins would make it harder to stay in control. It was with a deep breath that he stared at her and stepped closer to allow his breath to strike her as he moved. Letting one finger out of the cloak her ran it along her skin for a moment to stop near the vein on her neck. “You misunderstand Heather, I want to bite you and drain you of blood, but that is what would give me those horns. The scars of my body are reminders, and warnings, cut into my flesh by silver and left to scar as a human would gain. Every scar is from a woman I tried to bite. Every scar is a lashing from a silver whip until I learned to keep my hunger in control. I hate what I am and yet I live with it... as to living with the need of blood... It is all I have ever eaten... how would I know anything else...” He stated before stepping back and away from her, his hand once again leaving her skin as he moved and vanishing into the coat. Turning from her he surveyed the crowd letting his senses wander and take in what he saw before he planned the route to take them back to his home. Glancing at her he tried to smile and yet found it not forthcoming, he was worried... He felt as if he was on the edge of a knife, it reminded him of that day, the day his master died. Like he had known it was about to happen that his life was about to change, he just couldn’t explain or pinpoint it. “Follow me...”
