Raleigh had no idea what he was doing back on this side of town, but he couldn’t help it. That part of his life was still fresh in his mind and he missed all of his friends. Perhaps that was why he was so fond of Colleen Frampton now. She was his mistress, and never pressed for any information about his life as well as letting him don what he pleased because deep down everyone knew that she was constantly aware of where he was due to their bond. Not that it mattered none of the people he knew through the coven were aware of his past, just like all his former friends and family had no idea what happened to him after that day.
Maybe that was why he had decided to venture down memory lane. Central Park was his first stop, he took his daughter there often and just sitting on a fence caused the man to become enthralled in his memories of the little girl running around, being pushed on a swing and feeding the birds. Raleigh got so lost in the memories that he never realized that he had some tears streaming down his face. He forgot about all the good that was in his life before losing his beautiful daughter, and now he felt even worse than he previously did. Not only did he leave his parents but his friends too. Raleigh’s guilt was always there yet he felt no burden because he never saw them around New York City –so he had no need to explain himself or his actions. Unfortunately exploring central park was not his best idea, two of his closest friends cut through the park often so he had a big chance of running into them; he figured this out as he began to notice more people travelling through the area.
It had been a few hours since he had arrived in the park and Raleigh knew that it was time for him to move onto another area of town. The smart thing to do would be for him to head back to the coven but there was a part of his old self wanted to stick around so he ventured down to a shopping area that had some decent café’s. There was one that he remembered to have the best coffee within a ten block radius so he headed towards it. There was plenty of money in his wallet so there was no need to worry about paying and he had plenty of time before sundown to head back to Colleen. He was still wrapped in his thoughts and lost focus on his surroundings as he walked, so when he walked into someone or something it shocked and broke his concentration. “Oh, I’m so sorry I need to pay more attention to where I’m going.” [/blockquote]

With the window in her pawnshop finally fixed, Spencer was able to head out for the remainder of the day to get some things finished. First what she needed was a good cup of coffee and possibly something to eat. Sleep was out of the question it seemed seeing as her day was almost over and there weren’t enough hours between now and when she had to go out hunting. It looked like she was going to be up for the next 72 hours straight which wasn’t that good. There had been days when the young woman didn’t have enough time to simply sleep and in the end she would crash for the entire day. Today had been one of those days that Spencer wished she could simply crawl into her bed to hide under the covers.
Not only had her store been broken into, but the idiot cops thought that she had done it herself. If only hunting was legal and a legitimate job that she could use as an alibi but unfortunately it wasn’t. Her best friend Randel had to lie about being with her at the time. Granted with how good they both were at lying and covering each other’s asses it was second nature to them by now. It still didn’t feel good to be lying all the time because no one believed them. However, the tapes she had proved that she wasn’t the one smashing through the window. Problem was, that on her cameras the person had moved so quickly it was hard to tell who it was and showing the cops such footage would really make things worse.
Being in a complete dilemma about the whole situation, Spencer pushed some blonde hair from her face as she headed down the street towards one of her favourite café’s it was only a few blocks from where she worked and the walk was needed. Being cooped up in her shop cleaning and taking inventory had really done a number on the woman. Her mind was stuck in her finances as she tried to think of a way to earn more money between her hunting and the shop to pay for the recent needed repairs.
Pulling her phone from her pocket, Spencer checked to make sure she didn’t have any missed texts or messages while she continued on her way to get another cup of Joe. Turning the corner, the young woman found herself walking right into someone. Stumbling back, she righted herself, tucking some stray hair out of her face. “That’s fine, I wasn’t really paying attention to where I was going anyway..” she added before looking up at the person. The moment her eyes caught sight of whom she had bumped into, her eyes widened quickly in disbelief. “Raleigh!” she yelled, stuffing her phone into her pocket before she took hold of the man’s shoulders to keep him from running if this really was her friend. She hadn’t seen the man in the longest time, not since his daughter had gotten sick. He had disappeared that night and Spencer hadn’t a clue where he had gone off to, none of his family did.

That voice was too familiar, at this instant Raleigh wished he had decided to just skip going to the café and head back to Colleen. There was no turning back now, she recognized him, he was just glad that there were no recent bite marks on his neck. Since his disappearance he had not contacted anyone from his past so this was going to be awkward and difficult, yet amazing at the same time. Fortunately for Spencer’s sake she had a good grip on his shoulders so even if he wanted to there was no way to run and pretend like this run in had never occurred. Realizing that he had yet to say anything to his friend Raleigh took a deep breath and grinned. Faking his excitement was not going to happen because he was extremely happy and excited to see her.
“Spencer!” He exclaimed while pulling her into a hug. Despite being happy about seeing her Raleigh was hoping that they would be able to just leave the park without any questions about where he had been the past year. If questions did arise he had no idea what answers would be given. “How’ve you been darling? Where’s Miles? Are you two together yet?” Asking a bunch of questions from the start was a defensive way of keeping the attention off himself. It probably didn’t help that he was wearing designer clothes and his hair was actually styled, whereas before he wore whatever was comfortable and affordable and didn’t style his hair.
Knowing that standing in the middle of the sidewalk was a bad idea Raleigh broke from the embrace and looked around. “Do you have time to spare and head over to that little café around the corner?” He asked while turning to walk in the same direction she was headed, knowing that was probably her destination from her past habits. The only problem with seeing Spencer again was another reminder of what he walked away from when things turned for the very worst. Spencer was an amazing friend but seeing her only made him regrets everything more. Though as long as she did not bring up Sapharina he would be perfectly fine, if she did happen to mention the beautiful young girl he would find a way to keep his cool before excusing himself and leaving once again.
Without waiting for an answer from her he took ahold of her hand and headed towards the café. He remained silent on the way there and pulled a chair out for her once they arrived. “So tell me what’s been going on in your life?” [/blockquote]

The shock of seeing her friend there had made Spencer’s grip on Raleigh’s shoulders a bit stronger than needed. The girl was quite paranoid however to see her friend there seeing as he hadn’t been around for the longest time. The fact that he just up and disappeared like that had made her think something had happened or that her friend had decided to end his life. The young woman had hoped beyond hope that he simply ran off not being able to take the loose of his daughter. However, the thought of him no longer living on this planet had crossed her mind a few times. Each time she visited her goddaughter, she would always get this ache not being able to tell the little girl where her father was. Her need to believe this was really Raleigh that she had bumped into had taken over for the moment. When she realized the hold she had on the man in front of her wasn’t normal, Spencer loosened it a bit, still looking at him.
Taking in the man’s appearance she couldn’t help but notice he looked good. Better than before. Hell he was even wearing what looked like designer clothes. It made Spence feel useless again. Everyone seemed to be doing well in life while she was still in the same place. Pushing that thought aside, the young woman felt a wave of relief fall over her when she was pulled into the embrace. Wrapping both her arms around him, Spencer returned the embrace still in disbelief that she had finally run into the man. The questions he threw her way caused her head to spin for a moment. He was asking her things when she should really be the one prodding him for answers to where he had been.
Being pulled out of the park and into a café, Spencer kept her questions to herself for now. If Raleigh was willing to have coffee with her at least she knew that he wasn’t going to be running off on her. Pulling her bag off her shoulders, she rested it on the back of the chair before sitting down and trying to get all those questions he had thrown at her out of the way. “My life is the same Ral, it’s your life that I want to know about. Where the hell have you been? What happened to you that night?” she asked referring to when Sapharina had been in the hospital. She had spent a good amount of time in the hospital that day.
When the waitress walked over to them, she ordered a small latte, frowning a bit when the waitress gave her a look probably wondering why someone like her was with someone who looked at good as Raleigh did. He looked like someone wealthy and compared to him, Spencer probably looked like a street kid. Glaring at the woman, she waited till she left before focusing her attention on Raleigh again. ”And why in the world would I be together with Miles. That’s absurd, and I think you’ve hit your head on something.” she added finding that comment to be completely out there. The moment it had come out of his mouth, the young woman’s eyes had widened to the size of sauces as she tried to figure out what would have caused him to even think that. “You look good by the way… really good Raleigh.”

It was wrong of him to just pawn off questions in hopes of keeping questions away from his life but Raleigh did not find it relevant to let Spencer know what had been going on in his life. Vampires were secret and he was not going to out them to his best friend, nor was he going to tell her that he was a blood slave and a whore to those who wanted him. Unfortunately as they sat at the table Spencer had a different agenda, she wasn’t going to let him go without giving up some information, and Raleigh should have known better. Everything flooded back to him as he heard the questions about where he had been and what happened to him, but he chose to ignore it as a waitress came by to get their orders.
Still ignoring her questions he ordered a medium coffee, black with just a pinch of cinnamon in it then laughed as he focused on Spencer’s response to Miles and her getting together. “Well let’s just say that the two of you have been fawning over the other for years, and as a matter of fact I have not hit my head on anything.” He teased knowing that both her and Miles were oblivious to their feelings for the other. Raleigh always had fun poking fun at Spencer and Miles over their crushes on each other it just seemed that Miles always got the brunt of it since he never actually told Raleigh to be quiet.
“Thanks though, I have a decent job so no worries, I finished college and all my loans are paid off,” he told her offering a bit of information, he wasn’t lying to her just excluded the part where he had a mistress that did whatever she could to make him happy. Raleigh knew that he had no idea what kind of situation Spencer was in but he was stress free and had no worries about loans, so every bit of money he made just went away into a bank account. Raleigh would have loved to have money to spend on anything a few years ago but now he just lets it sit in a college and wedding fun that he’ll never have to use.
Thinking of Sapharina again only caused Raleigh to sigh and thank the waitress as she brought their orders over. There was no point in avoiding her questions now, with how well the two of them knew each other Raleigh knew that if he left without giving her some answers she would follow him and find out everything the hard way. So the best thing was for him to just suck it up and answer the tough answers. Silently he took a sip of his coffee loving the cinnamon in it, and then he looked across the table at Spencer and held his hand up to keep her from asking all sorts of questions. “One at a time woman please, now I’ll get to where I’ve been later on but for now let’s start at the beginning.”
Raleigh hated going back through his memories but it needed to be done. “Well after Sapharina coded, and they couldn’t resuscitate her I freaked and couldn’t handle being there when they declared time of death so I walked out. Checked myself into a facility so that I wouldn’t do anything stupid then started fresh. Next question?”

When the waitress came back with her drink, Spencer pulled the cup towards her. Wrapping her fingers around the cup, she brought it to her face, inhaling the delicious smell of chocolate that came from the mug. On top of it was a bit of foam, with some added white chocolate shavings. When the young woman indulged she did so with style even if it meant paying a little bit extra. The young woman had also ordered a tuna sandwich which she was still waiting for. The drink would satisfy her enough until the food came. Ordering her lunch as a café only told her that she really needed to do some grocery shopping before the mold in her fridge came alive and ate itself. While she indulged in her cup of warm chocolate, Spencer kept her eyes glancing towards Raleigh. She could tell that talking about him was not something that the man wanted to do but she would give him hell before she let him just simply disappear again. Not with his daughter wanting nothing more but to have her father back.
It seemed thought that she had a lot of work to do as her friend continued to dodge her questions preferring to continue leaning on with the ones he had thrown at her. She wasn’t too happy listening to him assuming that there was something between her and Miles. Since she could remember the young woman had been picking on her geeky best friend. From what she had seen, there was nothing between them. At least not coming from the Geek himself and she had heard him mentioning some girl he had been Skyping with another state. “Well you’re wrong Ral, there is nothing there. Besides I think he’s got something going with one of his online girls anyways.” she added shrugging her shoulders not really wanting to be on that topic right now.
When he finally started talking about himself, Spencer made sure to watch him to make sure he wasn’t lying or trying to spin some kind of story. She had gotten good at reading people and often could tell a lie from a fib however not always. It was something she was still trying to master. Hearing how well his life was now, Spencer smiled glad he at least had that bit of his life worked out. “Wow, Ral that is amazing you must have landed some kind of amazing job than.” she replied wishing her life would take a turn for the better and soon. Lately it felt like everything was simply crashing down around her. Being able to finish college would have been a nice thing, but hunting had taken over her life and she simply dropped out figuring that there was no point. She didn’t find interesting in anything really at least not at the time. Being a hunter meant she didn’t have much time for a hobby.
Despite the initial avoidance of her questions, it seemed that Raleigh was finally talking about himself and actually giving her answers that would tell her what happened to him. She had been worried and spent a good deal on Miles’ computer after Raleigh’s disappearance trying to find the man. Bringing Sapharina up caused Spencer to sit up as she opened her mouth to scowl the man for simply leaving. However when he continued to talk, she closed it waiting until he finished. Hearing what he had to say, she wanted to smack him upside the head for being so stupid. “You really should have stuck around that day.” she told him realizing that he thought his daughter was dead. Knowing how the man was, she pulled out her phone and scrolled through some of the pictures to one of her and a 5 year old Saph during her most recent birthday. “She might have flat lined but they ended up doing the transplant just in time. We tried to find you to tell you but it was like you disappeared off the face of the earth.” she explained holding the phone out to him.

“Right because that guy has so much luck when it comes to girls, maybe from behind a computer screen but face to face no way. And you can tell yourself whatever you need to if it means that you are able to get through the day, but in the end you’ll realize that he fancies you and no one else.” Raleigh pointed out with a grin as he took a few drinks of his coffee. He was really enjoying his time with Spencer, having not seen her in a year meant they had a lot to catch up on but it also meant bringing up the past. That was the only downside that the man could come up with, everything else was perfect, at least until Spencer continued to talk about the past and how he was an idiot for now waiting around to see what had happened. It was true he regretting the fact that he hadn’t stayed to see if her flat line remained or not but that would have only hurt more in the end. The problem was convincing everyone else that what he did was in his best interest so he wouldn’t wind up hurting himself and possibly others.
It amazed him how wearing a designer pair of jeans and a t-shirt would make him seem to be doing well off. The truth of it was that he only got designer things because the Vampires only bought the best. Which meant that their employee’s and blood-slaves got the best care, problem was there was no way he was going to let that information slip out. If Spencer knew what he really did for a living she would beat the crap out of him before locking him away in a mental facility for a few years. Then again that option might have been a good one since he wouldn’t have to deal with all the nasty comments that some of the Vampires threw his way. Being a blood-slave was nice because it meant having free will and a life but it sucked because of the implications it could cause amongst vampire politics.
“Not really just something that pays a bit of money, and rent is low so I’m able to actually spend money on me not on bills.” He whispered knowing that it had to be hard for Spencer to run a shop and pay her personal bills on top of everything else. Raleigh hoped that Spencer was going to keep their conversation on the light side of things but his hopes were shattered the moment that she told him that he should have stuck around at the hospital. He knew that already there was no point in rubbing it in his face. There was no changing that though, unfortunately once she pulled out her phone he became curious, maybe she knew something, had pictures of his parents to show. What came next caused his jaw to drop, there was no way, she had flat lined and it took them nearly ten minutes to just bring the crash cart into the room.
“There’s no way, she was gone for nearly ten minutes,” he told Spencer while grabbing the phone from her hand to look at the pictures. He knew she was right though, there was no mistaking those eyes, that little girl in the picture was his daughter. Sapharina was still alive, it hit him quickly his little girl was alive and she had no idea where her father was for a year. He felt terrible and happy at the same time. He wanted to see her but knew that wasn’t possible one could not just simply leave the Vampire Coven without having their memory wiped. “How… What… When… What happened?” He finally asked hoping that Spencer wasn’t going to expect him to go see his daughter right away.

Spencer rolled her eyes as Ral talked and talked about how Miles wasn’t someone able to actually get a girl because of how he was constantly behind the computer. Rolling her eyes, she wrapped her fingers around the cup of coffee she had ordered before taking a long sip out of it. Spencer didn’t believe a word he was saying because she had already seen it firsthand that he was with someone. At least that was how it looked out given what she had walked in on. “You might have been married but that doesn’t mean you know everything Ral. He’s got a girl I’ve seen it myself first hand. Kinda walked in on her in nothing but a towel at his place.” she told him shrugging her shoulders as she sighed. That day she had walked out of Miles’ apartment without the key she usually had. Hell it wasn’t her right to have it anymore and that day she had been given a wakeup call. Trying to push those thoughts aside, Spencer pushed some of her blond hair out of her face simply watching Ral for the moment.
She was simply taking in his appearance and how good he looked. She was quite surprised by this given what had happened with his daughter. Part of her had thought that her friend finally lost it and simply gave up on life. The young woman hoped this wasn’t true but the longer she couldn’t find him; the more she assumed it was true.
Listening to him explain that it was simply because of coming into some money that he was able to look good. But to Spencer it wasn’t about the money. He looked well rested and he looked like there wasn’t much stress on his shoulders. Granted Spencer wasn’t aware of what his situation was like, but seemed to actually be healthy and well taken care of. It reminded her about how she had to sell her car recently to make rent and pay some of the others bills that her shop was raking in. She had mooched off her friends the last few weeks conveniently crashing at their places just for the food. Coffee right now was a small reward for having paid off all the bills on time and not having gotten any payments late. Living above her shop meant she didn’t have to pay rent twice but the store wasn’t doing that good. She had a stack of papers in her bag with different estate sales circles from where she could possibly find something of value. Not only that but most of the want ads were circled for just about any kind of job she could get. Last she heard the fast food place near her apartment was ready to hire someone.
Her news about his daughter seemed to shock the man as he tried to take it in. She knew that moment she told him he wouldn’t believe her. She would need some kind of proof and that was what she had for him. There were plenty of pictures on her phone and from her old camera of Saph with her. “She was but they were able to get the surgery done. It was a miracle for what it’s worth but she’s alive and well.” she told him staying quite while she let him take everything in. Looking around, the young woman shot the waitress a glare when she noticed she was constantly pointing her way. The next question had Spencer shrugging her shoulders a bit. “I don’t know what they did exactly. But it was a touch couple of days while we waited to see if her body rejected the heart or not.” she explained before taking her phone back for a moment to flip to another picture she had of Saph grinning with her tooth missing. “I know it’ll be hard to go back to that life, but let me at least give you the number… just in case you want to get in contact with her..” she offered hoping he would be willing to at least want to see his daughter again.
