Victor was not one for crowds, time square was nothing but crowded especially during one of the busiest parts of the day, lunch. Everyone was rushing around, trying to find that something to fill the hole within them and get back to the office before time escaped them.
Victor was not one of rushed. Today was his day off, he had left his book store in the reliable hands of his assistant manager Katherine, she was one of the few people he could trust with his pride and joy. Today was about Victor and no-one else, he had left his phone at home so even his mother would not be able to reach him.
With his heavy wool coat tightly wrapped around him, he made his way down the crowded street, weaving in and out the hustle and bustle. Why was the sun once more high in the sky, why could today not be overcast like the day before? His back was on fire as a thousand of thin needle pricked him that was what he felt every time the sun was shining and no-one, no doctor in this entire state could offer him an answer or solution to this daily pain. He tried to push away thoughts of pain and frustration. This was day to enjoy, to be himself in a sea of faceless individuals. Victor could get lost in the bliss of this moment. At least he did not worry about balancing any bags in his arms as he pushed his way forward, not today.
It had not escaped his notice, he was hungry but where to eat? Everywhere was crowded, filled with businessmen and women chatting away on their phones, glued to their ears. However a small almost empty tradition café in the middle of the square called to him. People simply passed it by, not noticing the family run joint as they rushed about, carrying out whatever errands and tasks they had on their plate. A soft smile graced his normally hard face.
