Cassie was up on the roof just as the sun was rising. Actually, she came up hours earlier to watch the stars. The sun was nearly going to rise, so she was getting ready. She had mostly come up here to avoid the vampires and her 'mistress', Desdaemona Richardson. Cassie liked Des, but sometimes she could be an evil pushy brat to Cassie. Des had bitten Cassie once since the first time Cassie had been bitten - by Des. Cassie knew Des wouldn't dare kill her, or turn her into a vampire.

Cassie heard footsteps, and spun around. It must be a human. It can't be a vampire, she thought, Her heart pounding. The vampires never come up at sunrise. But who else could it have been? It was Cassie's mistress Des, right there in front of her. "D-Des?" she stuttered, shivering. She was really in for it now.

we are young, so let's set the world on fire

Desdaemona was going up to the roof because she wanted to watch the stars before sunrise. At sunrise, she'd go back to bed. How surprised she was when she saw Cassie up on the roof, who had obviously been there a while. Des stared, open-mouthed, then Cassie stuttered her name. The terrified human. But Des was a fledgling, so her thirst for blood was not under control. She smelt blood better than any common vampire.

"I'm hungry." Des stared at Cassie. She made the statement bluntly, but she knew Cassie would know what she meant. Before Cassie could reply, Des pushed her to the ground and brought her fangs to Cassie's neck. She bit deep, her fangs sinking into the skin, under the skin. Then the fresh human blood was flowing in large gulps into her mouth, and it tasted great.

"I'm hungry." Oh no. Please, no. But then she was bitten, again. She was really becoming weak now. She fell to the ground as Des began to do this all over again. Then her eyes fluttered close and she passed out. She blacked out and her entire world, her entire lifeline, passed throughout her eyes. The screams, her mother jumping in front of them all, holding a baby in her arms - Cassie's arms being grabbed, seized and hauled towards the carriage. The baby's wails, the mother protecting her - the mother's death. Did that really happen? Her mother died? "Nooo! Mum, don't die!" she managed to weakly say. Oh no. She was probably dying.
