Spencer’s mind was all over the place. She didn’t know whether to be pissed off, relieved or hurt. Her adventure down in the archives had given her more then she had expected. It had been a long shot going down there to see if there was information on anything for thirteen years ago when her sister had been taken. Not only that but her mother was killed as well. There was a part of Spencer that had always thought that maybe her sister was killed off that day. Despite that, Spencer never gave up looking for her. At one point she had even thought about researching to see if an infant’s body was found anywhere. Problem was her hacking skills where that great and it didn’t lead her very far. Now the young hunter was curious to find out if what the hermit in the archives was saying was true. He had mentioned that he gave a child away to someone but she didn’t believe him. Not yet, not until she tacked down ever possible lead before that one to make sure they were all dead ends. However, the small bit of hope she had about possibly being close to finally finding her sister was really getting to her.
She hadn’t told anyone yet that she had a sister nor that she was hunting around for her. Her reasoning had been that she didn’t want anyone to know she had let the girl out of her sight in the first place. Having no leads also didn’t help the situation. Now however she had somewhere to start with. If not she was going to go back down to the archives and torture the information out of Cain if she had to. Right now, she needed some help and that meant telling one of her friends about her sister. She knew it wouldn’t be pretty but the young woman found herself at too many road blocks right now to actually go about it on her own.
Her tactics today was to bride her friend Miles into helping her. The problem was getting him to pry his eyes off of his computer for long enough to listen to what it was she was saying to him. It was why Spencer had cooked up a plate of homemade fettuccini alfredo for the cyber geek. She knew it was one of the few things that got his attention and she was going to pull out all the stops to get him to help her. Getting to his loft, she put the key into the door before walking in, a container full of food in one hand with her laptop bag hanging off the other. Closing the door, threw her keys onto the table before heading straight for the man’s computer area. She knew that was where he would be, it would be quite unusual for him to be anywhere else really unless he was vegging in front of the TV or something.
Spotting the man at his usual spot, Spencer tried her best to be charming about it seeing as she was asking for a favour. “Hey….” she said giving him a fair warning. Walking up behind him, she wrapped her arms around his shoulders from behind resting his head on his shoulder looking over it at what he was doing. “You know you really do need to get out more, soak in some sunlight.” she teased tugging on his cheek playfully before setting the container of fettuccini alfredo beside him. “Figured you haven’t pried yourself off the computer long enough to devour anything yet.”

Miles was most certainly the definition of being lost in ones work. When he got stuff on a tough problem he was practically dead to the world until he solved it. And right now that was all this project was. His employer tended to send him the tougher programming questions and he had long since gotten used to it. Miles always found that what others programmers saw as too tough he saw as entertainingly perplexing. And in most cases he had all of his work work finished in a day and would be back to what he considered his real work, research and development for the hunters of New York City. Sure he didn’t get paid to do it but ever since he had been told by Spencer her wasn’t allowed to go out and hunt he had made it his lot in life to make sure she was safe and well equipped in other ways, and over time this service lended itself to almost every hunter in the tri state area.
Today however was an exception to the rule. He had been working on this particular programming conundrum for a day and a half straight and in his haste to get it done had gotten himself hyped up on energy drinks and chocolate covered coffee beans to keep himself from sleeping. He couldn’t’ tell you want day it was let alone if he had actually eaten anything, which he hadn’t. He wouldn’t know if a bomb went off in Manhattan at the moment, he was just that determined to solve what seemed to be the unsolvable. So, when Spencer Redfield, his long time best friend, entered his apartment and walked up behind him saying hello. He may have not noticed her at all if she hadn’t decided to wrap her arms around him from behind. Miles jumped at the unexpected contact before realizing upon the familiar sounds of the soothing voice. Most people wouldn’t find a gruff Brooklyn accent soothing but Miles did and that was all that mattered. “That is why I have skylights. I can’t really work out in the sun if you ask me and this work problem has really got me stumped.” The smell hit his nostrils and he was in heaven. Miles couldn’t cook so whenever Spencer brought him food he was one happy little geek. “To tell you the truth I can’t remember the last time I ate real food.” Looks over at the small pile trash next to him, “I mean other then the three boxes of chocolate covered coffee beans and the case of energy drinks.” Miles grabbed the food and stood up, his stomach now taking over while his mind protested. He started making his way to the kitchen before turning back to his friend a thought having dawned on him, “Wait a minute you never bring my food. Why are you bringing me good? What do you want?”

Hugging one of her friends was something normal that Spencer did. Only Miles and Randel saw a softer side of Spencer. She could be herself around the two and it was one of the reasons she considered Randel like a brother. For Miles it was quite a different feeling. He was her best friend and someone she trusted her life with. There was also underlining feelings she had for the geek that the young woman wouldn’t admit to. It was all hidden just how she liked it. Out of the four of them in their hunting group, Red was usually the odd one out. Randel and Sasha were dating and both had enough money to not really have to worry about much. Miles was some kind of genius who had it made as every company wanted his brain and computer skills to solve their problems or set up security that no one could crack. He was set for life as well when it came down to it. Despite her always teasing the guy about never being able to find a woman, she knew he was a catch. Rich, smart and overall decent guy to boot. There were days when she thought about how in the world someone like her had been able to make friends with people completely out of her social class.
Whatever the reason was, she was quite glad to have Randel and Miles in her life. They were her family and that was all that mattered to her. It was why she was hugging the geek from behind while trying to pry him off the computer for a little bit. It was nice to know there were tangible people in her life. When the geek under her arms jump at the hug, Spencer laughed smacking the back of his head playfully while watching his attention turn away from the computer. The one thing that Spencer could do without a doubt was cook a decent meal something she knew that neither of her boys really got especially during nights when they went out hunting. ”Fresh air could do you wonders. So would a bath.” she added her nose wrinkling as she caught the man’s smell before laughing. With Miles up and out of the chair, Spencer sat down in it, curling up as she turned her body half towards the screen taking a peek at what it was he was doing there.
Now that Miles was distracted with the food, she could poke around on his computer a bit while trying to subtly hint at needing some help. “Chocolate and energy drinks aren’t food.” she added minimizing the window he had up, and pulling up one of the programs she had seen him using before. It was one that hacked into the police data base looking through their files. Clicking around for a moment, she quickly typed something into the search before letting it run while turning around in the chair to look at Miles again an innocent smile on her face. “What do you mean what do I want? Can’t a friend bring another friend food because she knows he aint eating proper?” she asked knowing it wouldn’t full Miles given how long he had known her. Spinning around in the chair, she sighed and bit at her nails, still curled up in the desk chair he had just occupied. “Kinda need a favour from you… hoped the food would be a good enough trade..” she added looking at him with her best pleading look.

Miles felt a tap on the back of his head as he jumped at the sudden touch. For some reason Spencer had the way of being able to sneak up on him without any real effort. It seemed like every time she would let herself into the apartment he found himself jumping ten feet in the air and immediately being pried form whatever it was he was doing. Though, if Miles really thought about it that was probably the real reason she did it. It was never very entertaining for her watch him work at the computer unless he was in CADD working on some new weapon design before building it. And right now he was just doing coding so to her it probably just looked like a bunch of random letters and symbols with no real meaning.
Miles watched as Spencer’s adorable little nose wrinkled at the mere smell of him. He couldn’t’ be that bad… could he? He lifted his arm and smelled his pit. Disgust crossed his face as the putrid smell of Body odor, or man smell as some would call it (i.e. Randel), hit is nose. She was right. He really did smell. Though, it wasn’t all that surprising since he hadn’t moved let alone showed in over 24 hours.
He watched as Spencer plopped in his chair and went to town on his computer. It was funny really. If anyone else even tried that Miles would have grabbed any one of the many weapons pieces scattered around his office and workshop and point it right at their neck. His computer was a very delicate piece of machinery he had spent many an hour fine tuning and perfecting, and anyone could easily cause him hours more of work with one wrong key stroke. But when it came to Spencer she could do no wrong. That and he had known the woman long enough to know there was no stopping her when she wanted to do something and she could kick his ass before he even knew what happened.
“In my world they are more then sufficient to keep me alive, but that does not however mean I am going to ever pass up a Spencer Redfield home cooked meal.” He watched her actions carefully to make sure that none of his work was lost in whatever it was she was now using his middle screen for. “Yeah a friend can bring another one food, but I know you better then that. You never bring me food unless you are trying to get me to do something. Sure sometimes that something is to get me to eat something other then chocolate and energy drinks but that is still getting me to do something.” Miles eyes narrowed as she picked up a discarded fork form his desk and started shoveling the food into his mouth. It was like eating a little piece of heaven, though Spencer’s food was always like that. Miles really had no idea if it was as good as he made it out to be since he never really ate much ‘real food’, but to him Spencer really was one of the best cooks in all 5 boroughs.
His eyebrows rose as he watched her spin around biting her lip. And here it came. The real reason she had come to see him and brought a bribe with her. “Food is a perfect trade, but I really should shower. As you stated I kind of need one.” He motioned for her to take the now slightly eaten food, “why don’t you go heat this up and I will be out of the shower in about 15 minutes. Then I can help you with whatever crazy thing you need from me.” Miles waited for her to take the container and jetted downstairs to the large bathroom that was both the master bath and the only bath.

Spencer’s nose wrinkled again as he lifted his arm to sniff himself. Oddly enough, Spencer was quite used to being around smelly and disgusting men. For the last couple of years, she had been around Miles and Randel far too much. At some points she was quite immune to the disgusting things that men often did without really realizing it. She remembered an incident when she had been in a group with some females and a few guys at the same time and the girls all got disgusted because of something the guys were doing. Spencer on the other hand simply rolled her eyes and smacked the guys telling them to behave. It just didn’t seem to faze her much anymore and it seemed to be one of the things that had guys like her more. At least as part of their group instead of a girlfriend. Part of Spencer wondered why she even bothered sometimes to try and get together with a guy when she knew they only saw her as one of their buds.
It was one of the reasons why she was able to stand coming into Mile’s place with only a mention of the odor as a joke anyways. The food she had brought seemed to do the trick it seemed with the man already getting up out of his seat heading away with the meal. She smiled to herself knowing that he couldn’t really resist a good meal after weeks of shitty ones. It was one of the reasons why she often came by with some food. If he wasn’t a home, Spencer would simply come by and leave the food at his place before taping a note to his door telling him it was there. Her own little way of showing that she did care about him despite all the teasing she did. “You need to eat better, your skinnier then a rake.” she added quickly typing in more key words before it was time to turn and face the music.
The one thing that she couldn’t get away with was lying to her two friends. They knew her well enough to know when she wasn’t telling the truth or hiding something. It was just one of the disadvantages of having such a tight friendship. Still biting her lip, she smiled when he said he’d help her but first needed a shower. Nodding, Spencer watched him run downstairs to his room. The moment he turned his back, she was already spinning around in the chair to face the computer again. Making sure his work was minimized and saved, she quickly popped open some of the programs she had seen him use before. When they were tracking down vampires they had used some of them to hack into different government sites to better help them. The one she was currently looking at was a search of police reports and records pulling up anything that happened that week her mother had been killed. The first thing that popped up during her search was her mother’s murder. A picture of her and the crime scene was splashed across the different screens in Mile’s computer set up. Next she threw up a search for all hospital and morgue records trying to see if they had any listings for infants being found that day.
Chewing on her lip, she let the search’s run while quickly pulling her old worn out laptop out. Turning it on, she set up the computer beside her on the desk trying to think about how much time she had before Mile’s came back. The young woman hoped he would take his time. Despite knowing that she should tell him about her sister, Spencer still felt like it was her fault that younger sibling was lost. Looking over her shoulder, she made sure Miles wasn’t back yet before hooking her computer up to his, transferring some of the date to it quickly. Unfortunately, with how old her computer was the process was taking forever. While waiting for this, she started reading over some of the files that he popped up, taking a closer look at the police report about her mother’s murder.

There were so many times that he had gotten so lost in his work he would forget to eat for days. It could truly be said that Spencer is the only reason he hadn’t starved to death yet, or at least died of mal nutrition. The boy didn’t really know how to make anything that didn’t come from a box. His diet generally consisted of energy drinks and ramen. Why learn to cook when there were so many more interesting things to do and learn about? That and it was just a waste of time when there was so much you could make in 10 minutes. When cooking the prep alone could take twice that. It was really a waste of his brain and talent as far as he was concerned. And seriously he had Spencer to occasionally bring him food so he didn’t die and she was a way better cook then he was or would probably ever be. She was always there to take care of him, something he was more than grateful for. She would check on him and bring him food all the time. It was almost like Christmas when he would come home and find a home cooked meal waiting for him with instructions on how to reheat it. Better then
“Honestly I stay this size no matter what I eat. Not really sure why.” Miles talked through the shoveled food and his words were muffled and funny sounding. He really would have given Emily Post a heart attack if she even spent 10 minutes with the boy.
Miles noticed Spencer start to mess with her computer and figured she was turning on music or something. She was the only person he trusted with his baby, just like he trusted her with everything else in his life. She was the most important person and the one he always wanted in it. It was because of this trust however that he didn’t think to ask her what she was doing and just turned to go down to his room and take a shower.
He was only gone for about 10 minutes. That was all he needed to hope into the shower wash himself and redress. He was a guy so the whole process was pretty low key. When picking out clothes could take an hour for a girl it took about 2 minutes for him. All he did was walk into his closet and pull something out. If it didn’t match Spencer would tell him. He buttoned his jeans as he walked out of the closet and then threw his shirt over his shoulder so it didn't get wet on his hair. He also made sure to grab his towel before heading back upstairs drying his hair as he arrived at the top of the stairs. “Spencer!?” The first thing he saw was her computer hooked up to his knowing it was both old and only well taken care of cause of him, but it hadn’t been looked over in month so god only knew what was on it. He dropped the towel leaving it forgotten on the floor as he moved quickly across the room and ripping the cord that connected her computer into his baby and therefore halting the download in the middle, “What the hell are you doing?! You know my computer is everything to me! Why are you hooking things up to it without even asking?! What is so important that you couldn’t wait till I got out of the shower to help you?!”

Every once in a while Spencer would look over her shoulder to make sure that Miles was still in the shower. She did not need him walking in on what she was doing. After what happened down the achieves a few days ago, the young woman was quite reluctant to try and share her information with anyone at this point. Unconsciously, she brought her pale thin hand to her neck where the wound was still there. When she had been pulled up away from Cain that moment his fangs had dragged across her skin making the wound quite bigger and more painful. Not that Spencer was going to be complaining about being pulled away from the vampire trying to eat her. The memory was still fresh and if she moved her head too much in that direction it still hurt. Sighing, Spencer closed her eyes for a moment the images from that day flashing through her mind. She had felt pleasure at the bite which was odd. Why had he done that when he decided to bite her? There were so many questions running through her mind at the moment. Spencer didn’t know where to begin when it came with the questions. Hell knowing what she knew now, Spencer wondered if there was even a point in finding out where her sister was. Would the young girl want to know that she had family aside from the ones she already knew?
Pinching the bridge of her nose, Spencer sighed listening to her computer transferring the files. The fact that she was able to do that was really a surprise. She remembered the day she had gotten the computer. Henry had sold it to her for a very good price. Someone had brought it in to pawn desperate for money and Henry took it for quite a low price. He offered it to Spencer knowing she could use it and the young woman took it. The thing was a heap of junk but it still worked for her, on occasion at least. There had been a few times she tried to save up for a new one, but luck really wasn’t on her side, unexpected expenses seemed to pop up far too often. With questions still running through her mind and her eyes closed, Spencer was quite startled when she heard her name just as the cord to her computer was ripped out of the socket. Her eyes widened as she jumped and tried to stop Miles from unplugging it, getting there just a second too late. The cord was yanked free and the young woman’s eyes widened as she watched her data getting lost. Not only that but her computer seemed to free at the sudden change. “Miles! What the hell are you doing!?” she asked her accent making it sound like a slur of words for anyone not used to her accent.
Standing up, she pressed some buttons on her computer trying to get it to work again. Nothing seemed to do it, the screen was frozen and not even the power button would turn it off. Her eye started to twitch as all hope of ever getting anywhere with anything left her completely. She didn’t know whether to cry or throw things at Miles for doing this. “Damn it Miles look what you did! It’s stuck! This is all I got why the hell did you do that!” she asked her voice hitching for a moment as she pressed more buttons on her computer trying to get it to work. At one point it simply made an odd sound and the screen went black before some smoke appeared from the bottom. “Great just great.” she muttered pushing away from the computer and Miles as she ran her hand through her hair. “Are you happy now your precious baby is fine? Lord forbid you gave a damn about anyone but yourself.” she added pacing the floor trying to think.

Miles knew he probably should have thought before he acted but in that moment all he could do was react. The last thing he had expected when he got back upstairs from his shower was to see Spencer with her computer all hooked up doing a download. That thing contained years worth of work and was not only his livelihood but his life. Miles was a computer geek and as such kept everything on his computer. Sure most of it was backed up but it wasn’t all about the data. He had handpicked and personally put together every piece of hardware involved in the creation of his baby. Why else would he call it his baby? To Spencer it was just a stupid computer but to him it was far more than that. It didn’t merely contain all his designs and programs; he had taken the time to scan every memory he could into it. Every picture he had of his parents and sister. Everything he thought he could make last a little longer by making it digital. To him that computer was safe and Spencer was risking that safety. He pushed her aside slightly ignoring her words and rushing to make sure that no permanent damage was done. He was like an ER doctor running through the motions as he started the virus scans he knew needed to be done and checked to make sure that yanking the cord did no permanent damage to his computer or the data within. Miles could see her computer troubles out of the corner of his eye and made a mental note to replace slash get all he could off of that as he could. It was the least he could do for his knee jerk reaction. Keep took in a deep breath as he calmed realizing that nothing was wrong. That was until she finished speaking.
He immediately froze stopping what he was doing as his now calm vision was flooded with the color red. Was she serious right now? He was one of the most selfless people she knew always thinking of others first and putting the needs of other people before himself. “ANYONE BUT MYSELF?! I normally always think of you first, but Spencer this is not just ‘my baby.’ It’s my livelihood. If anyone isn’t thinking of anyone but themselves it’s you. If that old hunk of junk had died while it was attacked to my computer you could have killed the whole thing. Not to mention the amounts of viruses and malware there is on that thing because of your fly by your pants internet and up keep habits. I can think of a thousand things that could have gone wrong while I was in the shower and not everything on this thing is backed up on my server. I have been working on this project for 3 days Spencer and that could have all been lost in a second. Not to mention it’s due tomorrow. Do you even understand what you could have done?! I’m a freaking consultant that people only use because I am good. And fast. If I get one bad review for turning in a project late or some other such nonsense I could lose everything.” Miles was red in the face and gasping for air as he just got louder and more angry the more he spoke. By the end of it all he could do was stare at Spencer in anger filled shock. Did she really think that it was that easy for him to just press a button and make everything better if something went wrong? Or did she think that his work and life just wasn’t as important as hers. Sure he was smart and things seemed to come easier to him with his fancy apartment and huge electronics budget but he still had to work for a living whether he was good at what he did or not.

Spencer was still pacing the room as she held her now completely ruined laptop in her hands. She didn’t know she was going to do at this point. Just like Miles, her whole life was on her computer and just because it wasn’t new or shiny like his didn’t mean it wasn’t worth something to her. Not to mention that just about 10 good years of data about her sister were stored in there. Even if most of it was dead ends, it was still something and it had taken her years to compile. Along with that she had several pictures on there that she treasured because she simply liked taking pictures. When she was younger it had been a more defined hobby but in the last couple of years the young woman had to sell her things in order to keep not only rent for the shop going but utilities as well. It wasn’t that easy as most people didn’t seem to like pawning things anymore. They got them from stores instead of coming to a place to get a used one. It wasn’t helping her store at all since she spent more on buying than selling it seemed. At this point her emotional state wasn’t very stable with everything that had happened to her lately. The attack in the archives still had her a bit shaken and she wasn’t full over all the knowledge she had learned about her sister. It was still weighing hard on her mind about whether or not it would be a good idea to find the young girl now when she didn’t know anything about her or her family. Would it even make sense to ruin her life like that all because Spencer was lonely and wanted her family? That little bit of knowledge about her sister being out there somewhere had been what kept her from getting herself killed in the field. It gave her something to hold on to and to want to wake up to each morning. Now she didn’t have that or at least it wasn’t a strong as it slowly slipped away.
When Miles started yelling back at her, the young woman’s anger boiled over as she stopped her pacing and watched him noticing not only the look her was giving her but the way he talked about his computer. It really was the world to him and for some reason that hurt. She had always known this but having him yelling at her like that really made it far too clear. Swallowing a lump in her throat, Spencer watched him letting him finish his rant. At first her anger took hold of her and she glared back at the older man standing there in front of her. Calling her selfish really added to the fuel and before she knew what she was doing, Spencer hurled her broken laptop at Miles letting it break to pieces at his feet. ”There, it’ll never harm your baby again! And you’re not the only one that had her whole life on a computer! Not only did I have pictures of my family on there I had 10 years of research on my sister in there! All gone because you decided your life is far more important than mine!” she yelled back, the anger slowly fading into a hurt as her hands started to shake the realization of the situation finally hitting her. “Don’t you dare call me selfish or assume I don’t know how important that thing is to you. I think I’m the only idiot that knows exactly what your computer and your job mean to you. Hell if I didn’t I wouldn’t be over here every couple of days leaving you food because I know your working! Half the time you don’t even know I’ve been in your place to leave you something to eat because you’re far too absorbed in your work to notice the world falling around you.” she added her anger still there as she said a few things before stopped yelling all together and just talked normally.
With everything from the last few days having piled up on her, the young woman wasn’t aware when the tears started flowing. At one point her eyes had started to water but she tried her best to keep them from spilling, her bottom lip trembling as she tried not to let the seriousness of the situation hit her. If it did, then she would realize that there really wasn’t anything she could do, that trying to find her sister was a pointless task and leaving her be would be far better a choice and it would mean giving up completely.
An overwhelming feeling of emptiness overtook her as she started at her red faced friend noticing how much anger she could see in his eyes that moment. With the tears now falling freely, Spencer swallowed hard nodding her head a few times willing herself to push the sob trying to escape away as she tried to speak again. “You’re right… I’m sorry. You’re work is far more important and I shouldn’t have bothered you with this.” she muttered finally giving up after so long. Cain was right there was no point in bringing up the past by trying to find her sister. Wiping her face, she took a few breaths trying to control her emotions but it seemed the emotions from everything that happened finally spilled out, the bite, her sister, this fight and everything else. “I’ll get out of your hair. I’m really sorry if I caused you to lose something.” she added grabbing her bag where she had dropped it on the floor. “Just remember to eat something.”

Miles breathed heavily as he finnished yelling at her. Yeah he had just killed her computer and he probubly shouldn't have been mad at her for something so silly but he was. He was furious. He was beet red and gasping he was so angry. He barely jumped out of the way as the computer came flying at him and crashed onto the ground only feed behind him. It probubly would have broken his shin if he hand't moved. It was still a large metal peice of equiptment after all. Miles looked back at the broken peices as she yelled and something in her words hit him. Pictures and 10 years of reasearch. Things he could have salvaged had she not thrown the thing. His thought were, however, interupted by her next statment. How could he ever think that his life was more important then hers. His anger faded in seconds and his color returned to normal. She was one fo the most important things in his life and if he had to choose between his computer and her, his choice would be her every time.
He listened as she spoke and knew that every word she said was true. He was always so wrapped in his work that he never really took the time to appreciate the things that she did for him. In truth he woudl have probubly starved to death years ago and been found days later by a stranger if it werent' for her. She always knew just want to do to keep him going. She was his knight in shining armor and he was proud to say it. He may not have had any blood relitives left but he did have a family and it started and ended with her.
Miles watched as Spencer began to disolve infront of him. He could see her eyes filling with tears and her lips trebeling as she faught to keep them at bay. He begain to panic. He never knew what to do when girls cried. Every one of them was different and would react differently to different ways of handeling it. Not to mention he tended to pick the wrong way every time without fail. For him crying girls were really just a timebomb waiting to go off and blow up in his face. "Ummm..." He let her continue to talk as he frantically tried to think of what to do. It was only moments before he let the tears fall and the panic incressed. He desperatly wanted to make things better but had no idea how to. Miles watched as she grabed her bag and started for the stairs. "Spencer. Wait." He moved to grab her hand and pull her into a hug, as it was the only thing he could thing to do to both makeher feel better and keep her from leaving. he could hold her for at least a second before she would overpower him. "You know that my work will never ever be more important then you are. You are the most important. And I'm sorry I got mad. I just reacted to what was infront of me without thinking or asking what you were doing." Miles pulled away from her and looked down in shame, "I messed everything up. I take you for granted and I promise I will help fix as much of this as I can." He pointed to the smoking pile of computer parts on the floor. "If I can get anything off of it I will I promise."

For the first time in a long while, Spencer noticed that her hands were shaking. She was gripping the strap of her bag so tightly that she could see her knuckles turning white while her hand shook. Her emotions were really taking a toll on her right now. Not only had she just smashed her laptop, she had lost her research as well as probably her best friend. Knowing how much his work and his equipment meant to him, Spencer didn’t think that Miles really wanted anything to do with her. She wouldn’t blame the older man. Sometimes the young woman was a handful. She had grown up quickly with everything that happened in her life. Not only that but living in an orphanage made it so that Spencer was tough. She would always be on the defense trying to make sure that no one pushed her around. It made her seem like a real bitch most of the time but this habit was something she couldn’t really get over at least not now. Being out most nights hunting meant she had to always be on her toes making sure that no one got the better of her because it was life of death. Her reaction to Miles unplugging her computer might had been a harsh one but she really didn’t know how else to respond when someone was attacking her. Whether it was physically or verbally the young woman did not like anyone trying to bring her down.
Sighing, Spencer knew that the moment she walked out of her friends place she wouldn’t be talking to him again for a very long time. For one, things would be awkward and rocky to begin with. Her resolve had been lost today and she knew this the moment her defensive barriers had gone down and tears had finally fallen. Getting out of there right now was the only thing on her mind. Spencer wanted to go home and curl up on her bed forgetting any of this had happened. Not only that but she needed to figure out a way to get herself a new one as well. Well not new but one that worked and wasn’t in a million pieces. With her budget that wasn’t going to happen for a while and she was already itching to do some more research. When Miles told her to wait she didn’t pull away like she usually would and probably push Miles away from her as well. Instead she stopped and willingly turned when he pulled her into a hug. Swallowing hard, Spencer pressed her head against Miles chest when he hugged her.
Not moving from the hug, Spencer sighed as she listened to Miles talking not wanting him to feel bad about what had just happened. Pulling away, she stayed close to him but moved enough so she could look at him instead. “Miles I know your work will always be more important to you than anything and I’ve accepted that a long time ago. Everyone and everything comes second to your work and your computer. I understand it Miles and like I said I am sorry for almost running that for you.” she added as she tried to continue to apologize. Wiping her eyes, she sighed again and glanced at the pieces that were once her laptop. “We both know there is nothing you can salvage from that junk heap. The hard drive fried and the toss probably shattered everything to pieces. Honestly don’t worry about it. It was time for a new one anyways. I got a decent looking one a couple days ago. Guy said he got a new one and wanted to sell his old one. Probably just gotta wipe the porn off of it.” she told him trying to tease and lighten the situation a bit. Swallowing hard again, she walked pasted him and picked up the wreck that was her computer. “Is your work okay at least?” she asked looking over the computer for a moment.
